Fermented Vegan Protein
Freshly made Chickpea Tempeh. Using only organic chickpeas to ferment this tempeh patty, it's shaped into a perfect size to layer into your burger. Freshly-made Tempeh is not the same as vacuumed-packed long-stored Tempeh. Try this juicy and creamy block of vegan goodness.
How to Enjoy?
The shape of it suggests a burger on a plate but at the end of the day, it is just a piece of good ol' Tempeh! You can use it in any way your kitchen inspiration leads you to.
To save the work for you, the best way to use this Chickpea Tempeh in your vegan burger is to slice it horizontally into halves and sear it with healthy fats and some low-sugar sauces. Top with some vegan cheese slices or sprinkle on some vegan cheese shreds and splash a dollop of our vegan mayonnaise with a blanket of fresh and crunchy vegetables. Slide the dish with lacto-fermented pickles on the side. Your gut and the food critic at home will thank you!
This Chickpea Tempeh is also great on its own without any sauces added. Serve with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. Use it as regular tempeh and add to your stir-fry or toss into your salad!
If you please, you can eat Tempeh as it is as the beans are cooked before being fermented. However, we suggest the product tastes better when cooked.
Pan-fry with healthy oils with a high smoke point (sunflower oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, ghee or even cacao butter!) till it gains a nice crispy texture and a golden color. Then add a dash of seasoning with Tamari soy sauce/coconut aminos. Or just a sprinkle of salt and pepper to make a great add-on to your salad or wraps.
Oven-baked with root vegetables with a dash of olive oil! Not only will it be tasty but it is also an additional protein boost to your meal. A roast can hardly go wrong!
*You can safely replace Soy Tempeh with Chickpea Tempeh for most recipes.
Notice Dark Grey Spots on Your Tempeh?
If you see dark spots on your Tempeh, don't panic!! The spots are completely normal to see. Some people often mistake this for mould but the dark patches are actually spores that indicate the completion of the fermentation process. What is Chickpea Tempeh?
Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian fermented product. We made our original tempeh with organic chickpeas instead of soybeans. Chickpea tempeh does have a different flavor and texture compared to Soybean Tempeh. Not only nutty but also creamier and with a distinct flavor and aroma. It is an acquired taste but once you start to like it you can get addicted to it - just like every other fermented foods!
Enjoy the freshly made tempeh!
Why It's Good for You?
Tempeh is made from whole beans that give a higher content of protein, fiber and vitamins compared to tofu. The result of fermented beans is a good source of vegan protein and with the aid of the fermentation process, the legumes are easier to digest and the macro-nutrients are easier to be absorbed by the body.
Ingredients: filtered water, organic chickpeas, organic apple cider vinegar, starter culture (Rhizopus oligosporous).
