Why "Functional" bagels?
We've upgraded our usual GF bagels with a variety of extra superfood ingredients that boost both their their flavour and nutritional value!
White - Organic chia seeds for extra protein, fibre and omega 3 fatty acids. Just like your sesame bagel with added texture.
Yellow - Turmeric, the anti-inflammatory king is added. This bagel is perfect to stand up to stronger flavours. Perfect accompaniments include aged cheese or spicy grilled meats.
Brown - Cacao powder for added antioxidants and minerals. This savoury chocolate flavour will surprise you! Pairs well with creamy ingredients like avocado, mayo, butter and cheese.
Purple - Purple corn flour, an upcoming nutritional super-star: researchers have found a naturally occurring chemical in it that may fight obesity, inflammation, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain types of cancer. Read more here on USDA.gov

What is Sourdough?

Our sourdough bread is made from the fermentation of organic gluten-free flour and filtered water, which results in naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeast. We do not use any commercial yeast to ferment our bread. We ferment our dough for 8-12 hours depending on the weather and this creates a special bread that is kinder to the human digestive system. Sourdough bread has a mild sour taste that you will not find in bread made using commercial yeast. This natural sour flavor is the lactic acid: a healthy byproduct of the natural fermentation of the lactobacilli.   

Why this Sourdough Bagel is special: 

  • Sourdough traditionally has low levels of gluten but this one is made from Gluten Free ingredients.
  • It's extremely soft and fluffy - the texture is simply unbelievable!
  • The flavour and texture is more enjoyable than that of a commercially baked sourdough 
  • The slightly spongy texture makes it perfect to put spreads on, but it's delicious as is

Due to the long fermentation time, the macro nutrients in the bread (carbohydrates and protein) are broken down into smaller particles, which are easier to imbibe into our systems.

How to Eat it:

If freshly baked, enjoy it as is. Sourdough bread can last a long time without any preservatives due to the naturally occurring acids in the bread. However, to enjoy the best texture, we recommend to slice and freeze if you are not going to consume it within 2 days from delivery. Toast the frozen slice and you can enjoy it as if it were (almost) freshly baked! 

For reheating 

Option1: Preheat your oven to 180°C and reheat for 5 minutes.

*We recommend this!! 

Option2: Microwave a frozen bagel for 2:30min 
Option3: Microwave a defrost bagel for 1:30min
Option4: Steam a defrost bagel till hot (about 5 minutes)
